Industrial visit to Machilipatnam Port

Third year Civil Engineering students, accompanied by faculty members Dr. K. Vijay and Mr. Sk. S. Alisha, visited the Machilipatnam Port construction site. This industrial visit offered valuable insights into large-scale infrastructure development and modern construction practices. The project, executed by MEIL, involves a first-phase investment of Rs.3,940.43 crore and spans an area of 17,000 acres. During the visit, students had the opportunity to observe key aspects of the construction process, including the 60-meter deep pile foundation system for supporting heavy structures, ground improvement using Prefabricated Vertical Drains (PVDs), operations at the Ready Mix Concrete plant, DGPS surveying techniques, the dredging process, and the various stages of breakwater construction. This hands-on experience enabled students to connect classroom theory with real-world engineering applications, thereby enriching their academic and professional understanding.
