The Assistive Technology Lab (ATL) in Vishnu Institute of Technology, Bhimavaram, West Godavari district, Andhra Pradesh was established in the year 2012 in collaboration with UMass, Lowell is a part of Sri Vishnu Educational Society (SVES). It is the vision of Mr. K. V. Vishnu Raju, the Chairman of SVES, to utilize the skills of every engineering department of the college for the development of Assistive Technology. ATL works for a very unique and a noble cause of designing projects by the students of Vishnu Institute of Technology that could benefit the differently-abled people.
1.Design and implementation of Projects.
2. Publishing papers.
3. Get patents.
4. Product development.
ATL provides a platform for the students to get trained in assistive technology. Every year several students were selected from different branches such as ECE, EEE, ME etc. to get trained in assistive technology. During the training process they were trained under faculty mentors to think of utilizing their knowledge and skills in developing a product or a device to assist the disable people.

Inspire - Enlight - Expertise Vision of an assistive technology lab is to leverage technology to bridge the gap between abilities and disabilities, promote inclusion, and empower individuals with disabilities to participate fully in all aspects of life.
The mission of an assistive technology lab is to empower individuals with disabilities, promote their independence and inclusion, and enable them to fully participate in all aspects of life through the effective use of technology.
The social impact of an assistive technology lab extends far beyond individuals with disabilities. It creates a more inclusive and accessible society, promotes equal opportunities, and enhances the overall well-being and participation of individuals with disabilities in all aspects of life.
Students along with their faculty mentors participate in various competitions both at state level and nationwide to demonstrate the working and efficacy of the assistive technology devices they developed at ATL, Vishnu Institute of Technology. Some of these teams have won prizes in the competitions organized by reputed research and development organizations and academic universities. Four inventions developed as assistive technology devices were published as patents. Six project teams won prizes (1st/2nd) in nationwide competitions and three ideas were published as international conference papers.
1. Development of Innovative Solutions.
2. Enhanced Education and Employment Opportunities.
3. Empowered Individuals.
4. Collaboration and Knowledge Exchange.
5. Research Contributions.
The mobility of an assistive technology lab can refer to two different aspects: physical mobility and technological mobility.
Physical mobility can also involve the lab's ability to conduct field visits or assessments in real-world environments, such as homes or workplaces, to better understand the specific mobility challenges individuals face in their daily lives. This enables the lab to develop more effective and tailored assistive technology solutions.
Technological mobility refers to the lab's utilization of mobile and portable technologies to enhance accessibility and provide services. This could include the use of mobile apps, tablet-based assessment tools, or portable devices for on-the-go evaluations and demonstrations of assistive technologies.
An assistive technology lab engages in a range of activities to fulfill its mission of developing and implementing innovative solutions for individuals with disabilities.
